Universal Bootloader v2
Version #2 of Mad Penguin’s Universal Boot Loader for Linux has just landed. It contains a number of major improvements and bug fixes including;
- A new styled main menu with prettier graphics
- Proper handling for UEFI booting as well as Legacy boot
- Proper menu re-initialisation for hopping in and out of sub-menus
- Updated images for some of the latest releases

The Bootloader is designed to let people try out different flavours of Linux without necessarily installing them onto a computer. (i.e. they run directly off the attached media, usually a USB key) That said most of the available live images all come with an install option if you find something you want to install.
There is a detailed article on the Bootloader over on the forums. This page also carries links for anyone who wants to purchase a USB key with the software and some images pre-loaded.
Why is this loader different ..
The point of this loader over others that are available is that it’s designed to be updateable. Each time you run the maintenance script that allows you to specify what to include on the USB key, it downloads a new copy of itself (i.e. the maintenance software) from the Internet before it runs. When it then runs, it allows you to select from a range of different ISO images and choose what goes on the USB key.
(then downloads new images, and deletes images you no longer want)
